I adore Halloween, it is my most favorite seasonal holiday! Therefore, this week, you see a whole week-long of posts dedicated to everything Halloween, as we count down to the big day it’s self!! Lets kick off this week-long celebration with some Halloween facts!
  1. The first Jack O’Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
  2. Halloween is the second highest grossing commercial holiday after Christmas.
  3. The word “witch” comes from the Old English wicce, meaning “wise woman.” In fact, wiccan were highly respected people at one time. According to popular belief, witches held one of their two main meetings, or sabbats, on Halloween night.
  4. An intense and persistent fear of Halloween is called Samhnainophobia.
  5. The owl is a popular Halloween image. In Medieval Europe, owls were thought to be witches, and to hear an owl’s call meant someone was about to die.
  6. Trick-or-treating evolved from the ancient Celtic tradition of putting out treats and food to placate spirits who roamed the streets at Samhain, a sacred festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year.
  7. “Halloween” is short for “Hallows’ Eve” or “Hallows’ Evening,” which was the evening before All Hallows’ (sanctified or holy) Day or Hallowmas on November 1. In an effort to convert pagans, the Christian church decided that Hallowmas or All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2) should assimilate sacred pagan holidays that fell on or around October 31.
  8. Black and orange are typically associated with Halloween. Orange is a symbol of strength and endurance and, along with brown and gold, stands for the harvest and autumn. Black is typically a symbol of death and darkness and acts as a reminder that Halloween once was a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.
  9. Halloween originated in Ireland over 2,000 years ago Ireland is typically believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.
  10. According to tradition, if a person wears his or her clothes inside out and then walks backwards on Halloween, he or she will see a witch at midnight.

Here’s a quick Spooky Cupcake Recipe to tickle your taste buds too! – Taken from recipesnobs.com

Ghoulish Glowing Cupcakes

  • 1 black light
  • 24 prepared and cooled cupcakes

White Glow In The Dark Frosting

  • 7 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoons tonic water {diet tonic water works too}
  • mini chocolate chips morsels

Extras Needed for Green Glowing Frosting

  • Neon Food Color
  • 0.3 ounce package of either Lime or Orange Gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chilled tonic water
Prepare desired cupcakes and allow to cool. Begin frosting by adding confectioners’ sugar, shortening, vanilla, and 3 tablespoons tonic water into a large bowl. Beat on low speed until no loss sugar is visible. Add remaining two tablespoons as needed to bring frosting to piping consistency. Mix at high speed for about a minute to allow frosting to become light and fluffy. Place half of white frosting into a separate bowl and set aside. Add neon food coloring to frosting until it reaches desired color {orange for orange gelatin, green for lime gelatin}.
Pipe colored frosting onto cooled cupcakes and place in the freezer for at least an hour. Meanwhile pipe white frosting on half of the cupcakes using a large round frosting tip. Add two mini chocolate chip morsels for the ghost’s eyes to finish ghost cupcakes.
After lettering colored cupcakes freeze, prepare the gelatin by adding gelatin mix to 1 cup boiling water. Stir for about 2 minutes then add 1 cup chilled tonic water. Transfer to a container that will let you easily dip frosting into and place into an ice bath to cool. Keep gelatin in ice bath stirring occasionally until gelatin is cool but not yet set {about 5 to 10 minutes}.
When gelatin is cool to the touch take cupcakes out of the freezer a couple at a time. Dip into gelatin upside down, submerging the frosting but not the cake {it is ok for the gelatin to drip onto cupcake, just don’t submerge it completely}. Rotate cupcakes dipping and then returning to the freezer for about a minutes to set gelatin, then re-dip. Dip 4 to 6 times for best results.

Refrigerate until a couple minutes before serving to keep gelatin set. Then place cupcakes under a black light and watch then glow.

{Make enough frosting for about 24 cupcakes}

Magical Music…

Hi guys it’s Daisy here! This week’s magical music post is dedicated to Alicia Keys!

Alicia Keys is the most amazing artist to me. She was my inspiration as a kid and still is now! I love her amazing R’n’B music, and the way she can play the piano. Her debut album ‘Songs in a Minor’ was her ticket to the big time, as people recognized her, and the fact that she has such an amazing voice.

Her new album Girl on Fire is out on November 26th, and from what I’ve heard so far from her single that was released, I am definately going to be buying the album! Rock on Alicia Keys, you are amazing!!!!

If anyone would like a special artist mentioning in one of the Magical Music posts, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Finding Love

I have been thinking about finding love, as of late. Therefore I felt like I should make a post on this. I’m at that age now where you have to start making your life choices. This seems to be the expected time to start having relationships. The question on people’s lips of my age seems to be; ‘Do I wait to find my soul mate, or should I just jump straight into the relationship game’. Well, personally, I want to wait until I find my soul mate. I know this sounds a little pathetic. How do you know who you soul mate is? Does everyone have one? What happens if my soul mate is dead? Well, that’s the risk that I’m willing to take, I want it all or nothing in life! So, many people just seem to settle into competent relationships, they end up content, of course, but they can never be extremely happy with their lives.

Maybe, I just have a rosey perception of the world… but… I do believe in soul mates and that we have our perfect match out there. I also believe that our soul mates will find their ways to each other. When you do find your soul mate, you find that your paths have crossed on many occasions, like fate was bringing you together. One of my friend’s experienced this exact thing! Her boyfriend and herself found that they had been at the same place at the same time on a number of occasions! Everyone is different, I guess, some people search all there lives for their soul mate, others drop in and out of lots of relationships. I would just like to say to everyone out there: Have a little faith in the world and love! One day you will find your soul mate so hang in there!

Why does life seem so awesome? … If you have found your soul mate I woud love to hear from you 🙂

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Plot Overview from IMDB:  It is based on the novel written by Stephen Chbosky, this is about 15-year-old Charlie (Logan Lerman), an endearing and naive outsider, coping with first love (Emma Watson), the suicide of his best friend, and his own mental illness while struggling to find a group of people with whom he belongs. The introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors, Sam and Patrick, who welcome him to the real world.

Recently I went to watch ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’. I entered the cinema with no knowledge of what the film was about so I didn’t have any expectations. Yet, I left the cinema in complete ore of this fantastic movie. Overall, it was such a feel good movie, as it was based on a boy who was trying and succeed to turn his life around. There was one particularly breath taking moment in the film, where Emma Watson stands on the back of a car and outstretches her arms like a bird. this was such a breath-taking moment as it summed perfectly up the feelings of happiness and freedom. It made me want to run through a park or balance on a car myself.

Th great thing about this movie was that it contain some deep issues, like sexuality and death. Yet, it presented them in a positive way. It was giving off the message that; however bad life gets you can always make the change and recover. It was also focused heavily on friendship, a group of friends trying to have fun whilst experiencing the elements and issues associated with growing up. This gave the film it’s real ‘feel good tone’. I think I enjoyed it so much because I could really relate to it, being an awkward, shy teenager when I was at high school. It is a great movie to watch if you are struggling at high school because it gives you hope. After watching this film, I will definably now read the book because it was an amazing story!

Well, I hope that you have a really nice day… If you would like me to write a review on a particular movie, just feel free to drop me a message.

Magical Music…

Hi guys it’s Daisy here! This week’s Magical music post is dedicated to Taylor Swift!

Taylor Swift is an amazing singer/songwriter and has the most meaningful songs ever. She has a cat as you can see in the picture, and her lucky number is 13. I love Taylor’s fashion choices too, as its retro meets country meets vintage. She has a great personality and I adore her music!

Taylor’s new album ‘Red’ will be released on the 22nd of October, and ‘Begin Again’ went straight to number on ITunes! Rock On Taylor!

Again if anyone wants to contact us and request for a particular music artist to be on one of the magical music posts, please comment and tell us! Keep the music alive!

Beauty Time: Curls

Hair set in pincurls. This is the second of our beauty posts, on hair curling. So many people curl their hair using curling irons, this is very damaging and takes a lot of time. A great alternative is rollers! You can get bendy rollers from your local pound store! You just have to wrap your hair around them in small sections, roll them up and clip them into place. You do this before bed and leave them in all night. Then when you wake up, you just take them out and then you have brilliant curls. It is so good because they look really natural too and your hair is undamaged! They are also good because they create long-lasting curls! They stay in for around 2 days so it means you can look like you have nearly curly hair!! I really think that you should consider trying this!
